Today, the Town of Lynn Lake is NOT under any wildfire threats.
However, with Winter behind us, it is once again time to consider “What if…?” in the event of a large wildfire in or near our 900 sq. km Municipality. As we have seen in Fort McMurray this week, a wildfire event can strike any community of any size, and preparation in advance of such an event is critical to ensure that both people and property remain as safe as possible.
The Town of Lynn Lake would encourage all residents to review this critically valuable evacuation information from The Province of Manitoba: http://www.gov.mb.ca/wildfire/evacuation_guidelines.html
We would also ask that all residents review the Town of Lynn Lake Emergency Plan.
Proper preparation in advance is the best way to minimize the impacts of any disaster. Please, stay safe, and be Fire Smart as you enjoy the beautiful region that surrounds us.
Mayor James Lindsay
Fort McMurray and its surrounding area is confronted with unimaginable risks, devastation and loss. An estimated 1,600 structures have been burned and more than 80,000 residents have been forced to flee their homes. The municipal sector is banding together to express support and offer help. In the spirit of true partnership, all orders of government are working to address the urgent needs of the community.
The Federal and Alberta governments are matching individual donations made to the Red Cross to send relief for those affected. Please consider making a donation to support Fort McMurray and its surrounding communities.
